EVENTS ON SALE

Andrew Kay and David Vigo present
Tango Fire

Tuesday 1st July - Sunday 6th July
"As the title goes, they were on fire"
   - The New York Times Nov 2006

Direct from sell out seasons at London's Peacock Theatre and the Joyce Theatre in New York Estampas Porteñas, Argentina's most celebrated dance company, makes its triumphant return to Sydney with their spectacular dance production, TANGO FIRE.

Following sell out tours of the USA, Europe and Asia, highlighted by critically acclaimed sold out shows in both London and New York, Tango Fire opens at the Theatre Royal on Tuesday 1st July.

The company - direct from Buenos Aires - features 10 sensational dancers accompanied by one of Argentina's finest singers and a quartet of brilliant young musicians, Quatrotango.

TANGO FIRE is an irresistible journey through the history of this most seductive of dance forms. Period duets evoke the glitter and danger of the barrios where the dance was born, and the heady nostalgia of the early dance halls where it was popularised, while the group's modern choreography is edged with the sharpness and sophistication of contemporary Argentina.

As one of the most popular dance forms world-wide, this exciting show combines the rawness and sophistication, sexy and sensual side of Tango in an evening of unforgettable spectacle.

Tango enthusiasts and audience members will have a rare opportunity to take to the Theatre Royal stage in an exclusive pre-performance 30 minute Milonga on Tuesday 1st, Friday 4th and Saturday 5th July. A Milonga is a traditional Argentine gathering where people come to dance the Tango. What a great way to get your heart racing before TANGO FIRE begins!

The Exquisite Hour
6 performances only: 12-17 August
Choreography & Direction: Maurice Béjart
Starring: Maina Gielgud with Paul DeMasson
GIELGUD in BECKETT by BÉJART

"It's Gielgud's show and her dramatic magnetism is considerable...
 captivating and uniquely enjoyable."
- Lausanne 2003

After sell-out seasons in Europe, ballet icon Maina Gielgud returns to Australia to star in The Exquisite Hour, to be seen exclusively in Sydney at the Theatre Royal from 12 August.

This thrilling work, inspired by Samuel Beckett's play Happy Days, has been created and directed by world renowned choreographer Maurice Béjart.

A variation on the theme of "Happy Days" by Samuel Beckett, The Exquisite Hour (L'Heure Exquise) portrays an aging ballerina whose relentless determination to see the positive in everything is a way of denying the present. Béjart's vision is enhanced by strong imagery and former Principal Dancer, Paul DeMasson, plays a humorous and empathetic character who sustains the ballerina as she recalls glimpses from three phases of her life.

"Gielgud has great dramatic intensity. It's in her blood." - Le Figaro, Paris
