Few holidays match the gastronomic pleasures of Easter with its lashings of chocolate and spiced hot cross buns. While the celebration falls on Sunday 27 March, we’re all for digging in early, and the offerings at MLC Centre are looking tastier than ever.
Let’s start with the usual suspects: chocolate eggs and hot cross buns, both of which you’ll find in abundance at at IGA Romeo’s Food Hall (access from level 6). The cocoa selection spans the full Lindt Easter range (replete with eggs, carrot sticks, lambs, bugs and bees, and gold bunnies in three kinds of chocolate) and Ferrero Rocher’s Easter collection. Buns include premium, fruitless, choc-chip and mini varieties from Balfours, plus a Tip Top and clear bag option. There’s plenty of fish for Good Friday in the seafood section. Throwing an Easter roast? Pick up a leg of lamb from the premium meats fridge, or pork if you’re celebrating the Russian way.
The good folk at Café Chocolat (level 6) are well-stocked with Pink Lady chocolate bunnies and bilbies. They also do a particularly potent Belgian hot chocolate spiked with your choice of hazelnut, chilli, caramel or Snickers.
Just around the corner, Alexander’s Patisserie are carrying the Chocolatier range of eggs and bunnies and are baking fresh raisin, plain and choc-chip hot cross buns in the lead-up to the big day.
And when it’s all over don’t forget undo all those caloric sins with a cleanse from the juicing gurus at Pressed Juices. They’re formulated by nutritionists, made from fresh produce and are guaranteed to whip you back in shape.
