Your guide to Parisian chic.
There’s more to French style than berets. With Bastille Day coming up (July 14th), our Fashion Team shares some tips to steal Parisians’ style.
Here’s how to find your inner Francophile:
Think chic: go for plenty of block colours, leather, a striped Breton T-shirt (Ignazia is great for these, Level 7) teamed with a simple red lip and clean skin.
In the bag
Givenchy, Balenciaga, Céline and Saint Laurent. Find these French luxury labels (and more) at Cosette (Level 7). Our pick this season? The Céline Nano Luggage tote – it’s the ultimate hard-wearing carry-all.
Wear it your way
Channel Carine Roitfeld and wear your jacket ‘editor style’ – draped over your shoulders. This trick works for blazers, coats and everything else you care to class as outerwear. Check in with Von Troska (Level 7) to find pieces that are easy to layer and wear this way.
Match and match
The rule here is same-same. Stick with this and it will see you through season after season. Pull pieces together that are similar shades – like navy with black, white with cream – or textures. Try leather pants with leather pumps or denim on denim - Anthea Crawford is perfect for these essentials (Level 7).
Keep it simple
The simpler, the better. French style is minimalist, always, and as Coco Chanel once said, “Simplicity is the keynote of all true elegance.” For accessory essentials, we love the pared-back style of luxury French leather brand Longchamp (Level 7).
The ultimate essentials? A light trench coat and a well-cut blazer. Be sure to stop in at Carl Kapp (Level 7) for these – they’re an investment piece that everyone needs in their wardrobe.
Our tip: be sure to celebrate your new-found French style at Café Chocolat (Level 6) – French pastries and quality coffee is the order of the day. Bon appétit.
