Who said winter was for staying indoors?

From the bright lights of the Vivid Festival, to spine-chilling stories at the Royal Botanic Garden and sweet treats at the smooth Festival of Chocolate, there’s no excuse for staying indoors this winter.
This month, the MLC Centre – and the rest of Sydney city – is alight with a kaleidoscope of vibrant colours and activities. Vivid Sydney runs from 26th May – 17th June and presents light, music and ideas to challenge and inspire creative minds. Highlight speakers include film director Oliver Stone and media visionary Jonah Peretti. After dark, light displays will wrap themselves around some of Sydney’s most iconic buildings, including our own MLC Centre, which will feature Urban Tree 2.0, an evolution of Ample Project’s Urban Tree projection from Vivid Sydney 2014. A series of vignettes of a day in the life of a tree will be projected onto the MLC Centre, inspiring viewers to reflect on life before modern-day buildings. The Martin Place precinct will be thrumming with ethereal electricity, with Atmos, Paper Moose’s recreation of our ‘Southern Lights’, the Aurora Australis.

For those who like their evenings with a chill down the spine, The Royal Botanic Garden is hosting ‘Ghostly Garden’, a twilight walk through the gardens and heritage buildings. Filled with haunted tales and spooky stories, the tour reveals a delightfully different side to Sydney’s much-loved gardens. Bring your own torch and sense of fun. Tickets available at eventbrite.com.au.
For those with a sweet tooth, the smooth Festival of Chocolate in the Rocks, on 12th-13th August, promises delicious decadence. Featuring over 10 artisan chocolatiers, cooking demonstrations by acclaimed pastry chefs, and gelato and ice cream taste-testing, this is an event to make the mouth water.
