Get ready to rainbow

This year, Sydney Mardi Gras turned 40 and it’s never been more fabulous. With over 200 floats celebrating ’40 years of evolution’, our city sparkled, with thousands flocking to celebrate this landmark year of passion and pride. This year, the headlining act was none other than pop superstar and LGBTQI icon Cher. The whole city was Believe-ing in love for one and all!

At MLC Centre, from 16 February – 5 March, we celebrated by giving our iconic steps a sensational Mardi Gras makeover. The steps were covered from top to toe in rainbow, and we invited the ‘good girl of drag’, Maxi Shield to be photographed on the steps. It doesn’t get much more fabulous than Maxi; performer, pole dancer compere, anti-violence safety ambassador and rugby union mascot – we had a great time with Maxi saluting 40 years of fabulousness.
